Orthodontic Treatment
Let Pachem’s orthodontists help you or your children achieve a straighter and healthier smile by realigning jaw, teeth, and bite using the latest technologies and techniques.
Treatment Overview
Orthodontics is a field of dentistry focused on straightening your teeth, realigning the jaw, and treating bad bites. Treatments include braces, an invisible form of braces, clear aligners and Invisalign, and retainers.
What is orthodontic treatment?
Our dentists have decades of combined experience in the field of orthodontics, and you can feel confident in their care. We offer various types of treatment to deliver the smile of your dreams. These include:
Braces
Braces are the most common treatment and help to straighten your teeth, giving you a smile that shines and a proper bite. This is when brackets are bonded to the front of the teeth. Arch wires are threaded through them and attached to bands fixed around the teeth.
Clear aligners
These are a popular alternative to braces as they are almost invisible to the eye and removable. Our orthodontists are also well trained in Invisalign. Invisalign uses advanced 3D computer-imaging technology to custom make a set of clear aligners to gradually reposition your teeth over time.
Retainers
After the braces have worked their magic, you’ll wear a clear aligner to hold the teeth in position. Our orthodontists will recommend the time, depending on each case.
Why do I need orthodontic treatment?
Our orthodontists can treat a range of problems, including:
- Overjet: this is when your upper teeth protrude outwards and sit more than 2mm over the lower teeth
- Underbite: this is when your lower teeth extend outward further than the upper teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Rotated teeth
- Impacted teeth: these are the molars at the back of your mouth that do not have enough room to develop normally
How does it progress?
Using the latest technologies, your orthodontist will carry out an initial assessment of your mouth to custom-make braces, aligners, and retainers. Every few weeks, braces are tightened to put tension
on the teeth and ease them back into the proper position. This can take months or years depending on the problem. If you opt for retainers, a set will be made to gradually perfect your teeth over time.
Aftercare treatment
After you have completed the brace or aligner treatment, you will need to wear a custom-made removable retainer to maintain the position of your teeth. The time varies from person to person.
